A celebrity football team is visiting Hemel Hempstead Town FC’s Vauxhall Road ground on Sunday 21st May 2023, to play a squad made up of players from community football project Community Kickabout. Both teams are preparing to showcase their skills on the field, and the line-ups promise an exciting clash; the Kickabout side compromises of passionate amateur players from within our community, while Celeb FC will feature footballers, entertainers, and personalities who have graciously dedicated their time to contribute to this charity event. Local football fans, celebrity spotters and the general community are encouraged to come along and not only witness an entertaining match, but also to contribute to the charity funds supporting Herts Mind Network. Celeb FC’s squad includes TV presenter Rob Lamarr, X-Factor finalist Charlie Healy, Gogglebox’s George Gilbey, Big Brother runner-up Akeem Griffith, Apprentice contestant Kayode Damali and several familiar faces from TV and radio. The squad also features ex-footballers.

This game will kick off at 3pm at Hemel Hempstead Town FC, Vauxhall Road, Hemel Hempstead; gates open midday with an entrance fee (all proceeds to charity) of £4 adults, £1 juveniles. Both cash and card will be accepted at the turnstiles and spectators are advised to arrive early to avoid queues. We’re grateful of match sponsors S&N Service Ltd and BAR Electrical and Mechanical Services for making this game possible.

The Community Kickabout initiative has been arranging weekly “turn up and play” small-sided recreational football sessions since 2020; initially aimed at Men aged over 30, Women only games (no age limit) have more recently been added and the initiative was the 2022 winner of the Active Dacorum Award. Following some successful charity fundraising events last year, Community Kickabout is raising funds for mental health charity Hertfordshire Mind Network throughout May and June 2023.

On Saturday 24th June 2023, we’re playing Lads Speak Out FC, a North Herts based team set up to support positive mental health. The game will also be played at Hemel Hempstead Town FC’s Vauxhall road ground, albeit this one will be free entry (charity collections will take place). Match sponsor details in due course.

These games are part of a series of fundraising events arranged in May and June, supporting Herts Mind Network, who deliver essential mental health support in Hertfordshire, providing a diverse range of services from seven Wellbeing Centres and other venues across all ten districts of the county. Funded locally, Mind’s services are available to all residents in Hertfordshire over the age of 18, as well as providing dedicated services for 10-18 year olds.

Throughout the months of May and June, everyone who registers to play our weekly Monday or Thursday football sessions will be offered an opportunity to round up their participation fee, with the extra funds being collected and donated to Mind.

Previous Charity Events:

We recognised World Mental Health Day on 10th October 2022, which coincided with our weekly Monday night football session, by raising funds for Herts Mind Network, £400 from our participation fees from the Monday 10th October session was donated to Mind.

Our 9th May 2022 session coincided with Mental Health awareness week. As we’ve received grateful support from CALM through their Caring United campaign, all participation fees from that session were donated to CALM. We raised £400 for the charity.

  • The Tudors Supporters Club donated £170 to Dacorum homeless people charity DENS, after the funds were raised by “Community Kickabout” participants for the 21st December 2020 session. Even though the session was cancelled due to restrictions imposed the day before the session by Tier 4 measures, all participants were willing to still go ahead with donating their fees to DENS. Read about about it here.
  • We raised funds for Herts Mind Network via our Community Walkabout lockdown fitness initiative, which encouraged local people to get active. Hertfordshire Mind Network delivers essential mental health support in Hertfordshire, providing a diverse range of services from seven Wellbeing Centres and other venues across all ten districts of the county. We exceeded our original £100 target, and our donations page remains open.
  • We raised funds for Herts Mind Network again in December 2021, once again donating the participant fees for our “Christmas Kickabout” which on this occasion totalled £230. We rounded this up to £250 when we made the donation to Mind.
