Latest news and events from March 2024. We played 33 games of football in 13 sessions – we’ve now passed 650 games in total since we kicked off in 2020. While our first session of April will be out 250th! Thank you to everyone who contributes making this community initiative a success. Here’s the other headlines from March:
Premier League award for Kickabout’s Dave Bradbury.
At Hemel Hempstead Town FC’s home game against Hampton and Richmond on Saturday 16th March, a presentation was made to Community Kickabout volunteer session organiser Dave Bradbury, who was nominated as Hemel FC’s Premier League Community Captain.

When Community Kickabout began to expand in 2022, firstly with additional Monday games and then adding extra days to the weekly schedule, the success of the initiative’s growth can be mainly attributed to Dave’s enthusiasm and willingness to take responsibility for running extra games. Dave has also embraced the social and charity events Kickabout have organised, dedicating more time and resources to promoting a sense of community. Kickabout’s participants and volunteers are all extremely grateful for his efforts and dedication. Click here for more information.
Women’s Health Guide Giveaway
Ahead of International Women’s Day in March, our players were offered an opportunity to pick up a free Women’s health manual at our sessions. The 36 page full colour A5 booklet is full of simple, practical tips that will improve the health of pretty much anyone. This isn’t just for our women’s group, our men are welcome to take a copy for family or friends.

This manual is fully compliant with the NHS England Information Standard. This means it is fully-referenced, has been peer-reviewed by a team of medics led by Dr John Chisholm. We still have copies of these manuals, if anyone else wants one just ask our session organisers. Click here for more information.
New shirt sponsor for our 11-a-Side games.
We extend heartfelt gratitude to BAR Electrical & Mechanical Services LTD, not only for their generous sponsorship of our upcoming charity fundraising football event, but also for sponsoring new kits for our Men and Women groups when playing in the charity games. The kits will of course be used beyond the charity event as we look at other opportunities for both our Men and Women groups to play occasional full-sided football games as well as the usual weekly small-sided sessions.

Local businesses supporting our upcoming Charity event.
Aside from BAR’s generous sponsorship, for our charity day of football fundraising in May (click here for more info about the event) we’ve also received support from local businesses who have donated raffle and competition prizes! Drift Limits have provided driving experiences, Ninja Warrior Watford, Willows farm, DJ’s and Laser Quest have all provided free entry vouchers, Hemel Storm basketball team and Hemel Hempstead Town FC have provided autographed balls.
How you can Help our charity event:
- Buy our raffle tickets (and take some to sell to your friends/colleagues etc), they should be delivered next week.
- Tell people about the event and share the info on your social media.
- We’re also waiting for some leaflets to be delivered, please take one if you’ve access to a noticeboard, shop window etc.
- Volunteer to help the day run smoothly, even if just to contribute for an hour so you can enjoy the rest of the days activities.
- Come along on the day, watch the football, join in the activities.
- Donate prizes for our raffle.

Footgolf and Curry Night for the Men’s group first Social of this year
Some of our regular players visited Little Hay golf club in Bovingdon on Friday 22nd March, for a round of Foot Golf.

It was great to take part in something a bit different to our usually weekly football games, hopefully we can organise more events like this. Later that evening, 20 of our players met at Dalchini in Hemel’s Old Town, enjoying a curry and a few drinks. It was good to see some new faces joining in our night out.
