At Hemel Hempstead Town FC’s home game against Hampton and Richmond on Saturday, a presentation was made to Community Kickabout volunteer session organiser Dave Bradbury, who was nominated as Hemel FC’s Premier League Community Captain.

The Premier League launched the “More than a game” campaign to showcase how its wide-ranging investment into all levels of football enables people connected to clubs to have a positive impact on their local communities. Clubs across the Premier League, EFL and National League are naming a Community Captain, somebody at the heart of their Premier League-funded programmes who deserves recognition for their commitment and contribution to the game and society.

Dave joined in the first ever Community Kickabout back in October 2020, and has been ever-present since then, rarely missing a session. Dave is a positive character who encourages people to get involved and makes sure new players always feel welcome and enjoy the games.

When Community Kickabout began to expand in 2022, firstly with additional Monday games and then adding extra days to the weekly schedule, the success of the initiative’s growth can be mainly attributed to Dave’s enthusiasm and willingness to take responsibility for running extra games. Dave has also embraced the social and charity events Kickabout have organised, dedicating more time and resources to promoting a sense of community. Kickabout’s participants and volunteers are all extremely grateful for his efforts and dedication.
