Well done Lionesses 🦁⚽👏🏼 keeping girls and women inspired. When England’s Lionesses lifted the UEFA Women’s Euro trophy in 2022, it wasn’t just a victory on the pitch – it was the spark for a nationwide movement. Here in Hemel Hempstead, that historic moment inspired us at Community Kickabout to launch our very first women’s-only recreational football session.

What started as an to give local women a space to play football in a fun, pressure-free environment – has grown into a thriving community. Thanks to the support of Hemel Hempstead Town FC who have provided us with a lot of flexibility in using their excellent facilities, we’ve been able to create a welcoming space for players of all ages and abilities.

Whether you’re completely new to football, haven’t played since school, or are looking to get back into the game after a break, our sessions are open to all. There’s no pressure, no trials – just an hour of fresh air, laughter, and a chance to get moving.

Playing as part of a team brings far more than fitness:
💪🏻Physical Health – Regular activity improves fitness, coordination, and overall health, and football is a great way to do it without even realising you’re exercising.
🧠Mental Wellbeing – Running around, having fun, and sharing a laugh with others is a proven stress reliever. Many of our members say they leave each session feeling lighter and more positive.
🤗Social Connection – Our kickabouts have sparked lasting friendships. Players have supported one another to join local women’s teams, arrange extra kickabouts, and even organise social activities off the pitch.

What’s been most rewarding is seeing how far this idea has come. From a handful of women at our first session, we’ve now built a lively and supportive group. The Lionesses showed us what’s possible for women’s football at the highest level – and here in Hemel Hempstead, we’re proving that the grassroots game can be just as powerful in changing lives.
