Free game on Second Anniversary of our Women’s session

In August 2022, after running popular Men’s Over 30’s Football games for two years, we trialled Women only sessions (with no age restrictions) at Hemel Hempstead Town FC. We had a fantastic response and have organised regular games since.

As we approach the two year anniversary of organising Women only Recreational Football sessions in Hemel Hempstead, we’re taking a look at the remarkable transformation is taking place in England —one that’s empowering women and girls across the nation.

Unprecedented Growth: Over the past seven years, the number of women’s and girls’ football teams in England has more than doubled! Thanks to the tireless efforts of local clubs, passionate players, and inspiring role models, we’ve witnessed a surge in registrations. In the 2022-23 season alone, nearly 1,500 new teams joined the ranks, fueled by the excitement of hosting UEFA Women’s EURO 2022 and the Lionesses’ triumphant victory.
From Grassroots to Professional: Every corner of England—from bustling cities to serene villages—has seen growth. Jersey, once home to just seven teams, now boasts 53 women’s and girls’ football teams! Surrey and Sussex have also seen remarkable leaps, with team numbers soaring from 177 to 552 and 162 to 489, respectively.
The Lionesses’ Legacy: England’s EURO 2022 win on home soil acted as a catalyst, inspiring a new generation of players – this was certainly the inspiration for us to add Women’s only games to our busy weekly schedule of men’s games. Our trailblazing Lionesses showed that football isn’t just a game—it’s a force for change. Their victory transcended society, turning inspiration into participation. More women and girls stepped forward to play, leaving the game in a better place for generations to come.
Benefits Beyond the Pitch: Women’s team sports offer more than just goals and victories. They promote equality, diversity, and inclusion. As Brits increasingly view female athletes as positive role models, women’s sports are breaking barriers. Moreover, revenue growth in women’s sports is expected to soar, benefiting not only the economy but also public health. A healthier population means reduced healthcare costs.
Changing the Narrative: Seeing women’s sport on TV has inspired 12% of Brits to try a sport for the first time this year. Let’s continue to champion equal coverage of men’s and women’s sports, creating a level playing field for all.
The Future Is Female: As we look ahead, our priority is clear: making football accessible to all women and girls, regardless of background or circumstance. Together, we’ll keep scoring goals—on and off the pitch!
